Freelance Music Tutor Required for 1:1 sessions in the home
Garden of Music are seeking to hire a freelance music tutor to join their London team of facilitators working with a 23 yr old young musician who has Autism and Additional Support Needs. Sessions are 1:1, taking place every week during term time. The sessions typically last 2.5hrs per week. Opportunities for further sessions may occasionally be available.
The young musician's 1st instrument is drum kit, but this bespoke and very broad music programme also includes working on musical activities to develop skills in singing, playing piano, using iPad as a musical instrument, playing percussion, playing drum kit, developing improvising skills, and learning music theory.
The young musician is a motivated learner, is gentle and has a sociable and fun personality.
Applicants should have good general musicianship and improvising skills. Experience in working in SEN/D is not essential, but you must have an interest in accessible music making and education, a strong commitment to the weekly sessions and to be ambitious about helping to develop the musician’s skills while making the sessions enjoyable. Training and ongoing support will be provided by Garden of Music and by the learner’s family and carer.
Applicants must be available on Thursday mornings and also available some Friday mornings and afternoons for training. Sessions take place in the young musicians home in NW6 area (Finchley Road), which is well served by transportation links, in a very supportive, safe and friendly environment.
Rate of pay is between £25-£35 per hour depending on experience.
Please email admin@gardenofmusic.org expressing your interest in this role and attaching your CV. You will be expected to have a recent DBS check and, as this is a freelance role, you will be responsible for your own tax affairs. Please forward your application by 5pm on Monday 13th February 2017.
